Due to the ideal grassland habitat, pheasant hunting is very popular in the Midwest. Many don't know that the ring-neck pheasant aren't native to the United States. 60 pheasant pairs were first transported and released in 1881 in Oregon. Years later more were released in other states, which has lead to what we now know as our wild pheasant population.

Pheasants live within a home range of approximately one square mile. Different habitat cover (shelter, vegetation) is critical to the pheasant population growth and survival. Pheasants will utilize different habitat cover throughout the year (nesting, brood-rearing, winter).
